Disability Discrimination Act

The Disability Discrimination Act (1995) aims to end discrimination which affects disabled people in their daily lives. The DDA (2005) amends the first act and increases the responsibility of the Greater London Authority, Private Clubs with more than 25 individuals, Public Transport Vehicles, Landlords & others who manage retail premises. This ensures equal rights in the areas of:

  • Access to Goods & Services
  • Employment
  • Buying & Renting Land & Property

Why Comply

Legal Case: Statutory requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act require accessibility to your business for employees and customers with a disability and cannot be ignored.

Social Case: UK Businesses will want to be regarded as accessible equal opportunity employers or service providers. Compliance with the DDA enhances business credibility to both customers and employees.

Business Case: There are approximately 8.7 million disabled people in Britain. That is 1 in 7 of the population with a total annual income of some £50b.
